WU
Copyright Information (2001)
The ad hoc copyright committee at Washburn University spent over a year wading
through the bog of U.S. Copyright law in an effort to discover what their faculty,
staff and students need to know to safeguard their rights and the rights of others.
The committee decided early on to publish the bulk of their findings in an easy-to-use
Web site. Once again, Kevin's job at WU afforded him a great opportunity to showcase
his Web design skills. While the majority of the site is nothing more than links
to resources, we also included a series of fun quizzes designed to test an individual's
copyright knowledge. The site also has an extensive glossary. This site is no
longer being maintained by Wohler Web Works.
Shoestring
Film Society (2001)
The work on the film society web site is an off-shoot of Kevin's interest in film.
The site is intended to reflect the old style elegance of the golden age of cinema.
A fairly simple site, it offers a film calendar, some links, and the latest information
on what the SFS will be showing. This is about as "bare bones" as a site
can get, but it still meets the needs of the customer and its audience. This
site is no longer being maintained by Wohler Web Works.
hawkfest.org (2000)
The Coleman Hawkins Commemorative Committee hosts a free jazz festival every year
in Topeka, Kansas. Committee members had been eager to register a domain name
and update the old site with new information. We accepted the job, handling the
registration and technical setup for their new domain and redesigning the entire
site. For this site, we stuck to black-and-white graphics to give it an old-time
jazz feel. This site is no longer being maintained by Wohler Web Works.
Leadership
Institute (2000)
The Washburn Institute for the Study and Practice of Leadership is a student program
at Washburn University aimed at building leadership skills in students. The challenge
with this site lay in meeting the needs of two audiences: the prospective students
and interested parties who needed more information about the Leadership Institute,
and the students who would be using the site for their Leadership classes. To accomplish
these dual goals, we created two sites, one for information seekers and one for
students. Each site has a unique style. The information site is very formal while
the student site blends with the Washburn University web design. This site also
utilizes cascading style sheets and server-side includes. This site is no longer
being maintained by Wohler Web Works.
Living
Learning Center (2000)
Washburn University is in the process of erecting a new residential building that
combines living quarters, classrooms, and a recreational center. For this project,
we were asked to create a web site that mirrored a brochure already in use by the
university. The color scheme, text, and even the photos were taken directly from
the brochure. We designed the LLC logo in the upper-left corner and utilized JavaScript
to create factoid pop-ups on each of the pages. This site is no longer available.
