Washburn Writers Program (2003)
I designed the Washburn Writers Program website because (as a Washburn Writers
Fellow) I felt that the program needed a web presence. The design is simple
in look but complex in execution. I was just learning about layers at the
time and discovered a way to show or hide the layers depending on the information
presented. At the time, the website had short biographies for all the fellows
(as well as the faculty staff). The menu navigation is a bit awkward. Nowadays
I would redesign it and utilize CSS. This site is no longer being maintained
by Wohler Web Works.
Synthetic
Sky Studios (2003)
Local artist Keith Russell needed a site to help showcase his airbrush work. Touted
as "Science Fiction Fine Art" Keith's unique style deserved a site that
was equally unique and reflected his artistic vision. To duplicate the look and
feel of his work, Wohler Web Works utilized pieces of Keith's paintings into the
border, background, and buttons used on the site. The gallery (the main attraction
of the site) utilizes Javascript that opens each thumbnail image in a separate
window for larger display.
Bird
Runner Wildlife Refuge (2002)
The Bird Runner Wildlife Refuge is a privately-owned refuge that provides visitors
a chance to spend time in a real Kansas prairie, surrounded by nature and free
of modern distractions. Margy Stewart, one of the founders of the refuge, sought
Wohler Web Works to create the site, asking that the look and feel of it reflect
the natural setting of Bird Runner. The graphics on the site, including the logo,
were custom designed by Wohler Web Works.
Gina
Holsopple (2002)
When singer/songwriter Gina Holsopple came to Wohler Web Works with a request to
design her web site, we knew this would be a great challenge and a great opportunity.
Not only did the site allow us a freedom of creativity that comes with doing something
for a musician, but it also forced us to delve into the world of digital audio
and .mp3 files. With her permission, we converted some of her music to .mp3 and
.wav format to make them available for download. The end result is a wonderful
new addition to our design showcase.
WU
Online Education (2002)
The Online Education site was something Kevin did as part of his duties at Washburn
University. Of course, there were certain University guidelines that needed to
be followed. Most importantly, the site had to fit into the scheme of the overall
web site for WU. The logo was custom designed for the site. The yellow glow surrounding "ONLINE" is
intended to give a feeling of a modern Internet connection to the traditional idea
of education. This site is no longer being maintained by Wohler Web Works.
